In case you hadn’t realised, the seasons have changed and we’re now officially in autumn in Australia. Whilst in some parts of the country the summer weather is slow to disappear and it may not be too late to get your beach fix, in other parts the cooler days will have you already dreaming of your next summer’s beach escapes. You may think that Western Australia, the largest state in Australia, is mostly outback. But in the southwest corner you’ll not only find the state’s capital, Perth but also the delightful Margaret River wine region. Making your way up the coast, the sights you will encounter are breathtaking, with beautiful sandy beaches on one side and vast desert on the other. Located approximately 19 kilometres off-shore from Fremantle, Western Australia, Rottnest Island is an ‘A class reserve’ that has rich biodiversity both on land and in the surrounding areas, and is home to many endemic flora and fauna species.
WA locals show interest in getting to know their state
Western Australia (WA) has noticed an increasingly positive development in domestic tourism over the last few months with recent statistics from Tourism Research Australia recording a 25% increase in WA residents taking day trips compared 2014, with a 10% increase in overnight trips. 2015 up to September saw the total visitor spend in WA reach $8.9 billion, up from $8.1 billion the previous year.

Global Eco Heads West in 2015
The 23rd Annual Global Eco Conference will be staged on Rottnest Island, Western Australia 17 - 19 November 2015.
Announcing the Rottnest Island venue, Ecotourism Australia CEO, Rod Hillman said the sustainability initiatives on the Island and Western Australia’s leading work in marine ecotourism would make for an excellent location for Global Eco.
The conference was last held on Rottnest Island in 2001 in the wake of September 11 and the collapse of Ansett Airlines. "Delegate numbers were down but it was was the most amazing conference. Delegates used unconventional meeting rooms (like the picture theatre with its canvas chairs); were issues with push bikes, and did a circumnavigation of the Island," said Global Eco Convenor Tony Charters.
