Lady Elliot Island achieves Climate Action Business certification
Congratulations to Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort for achieving Climate Action certification at the Business level.
Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort has held Advanced Ecotourism certification since 2009 and have just added Climate Action Business Certification to their list of achievements.
Climate Action Business is awarded to businesses that have undertaken a set of adaption and emissions reduction actions. Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort is virtually self-sufficient. Island Management has reduced energy consumption and carbon emissions by introducing a combination of solar and gas technology, water desalination and various strategic behavioural adaptations on the island. Island Management has commissioned a new waste water treatment plant, renovated the island’s heritage listed lighthouse, increasing the amount of solar panels on the island to 186 and ceased the sale of plastic water bottles to reduce waste. The installation of a hybrid solar power system has decreased diesel consumption on the Island by approximately 70%. Further to the fantastic work they are currently doing, they are also working on providing their guests with the option to carbon offset their flights to/from Lady Elliot Island.
