This month Ecotourism Australia welcomed its newest Business Member: The Hong Kong Ecotourism & Travels Professional Training Centre (ETTC).

The Centre was established in 2005 to train sufficient eco-guides to meet the needs of Hong Kong’s growing ecotourism industry. With a team of nearly 40 members who have worked in tourism, diving, biological and cultural conservation for many years, the centre has trained more than 5,000 students and eco-guides.

ETTC also trained the first batch of Geopark guides for Hong Kong’s UNESCO Global Geopark, and in fact, most Recommended Geopark Guides (R2G) in Hong Kong are alumni of ETTC.

The Centre continues to develop its environmental and ecology training programs and activities, utilising both theory and practice. It trains government departments, independent organisations and voluntary groups in environmental protection, ecology and tourism, as well as running some more specialist nature courses about dragonflies, butterflies, birds, rocks and culture.
