CONGRATULATIONS TO LIVE NINGALOO FOR ACHIEVING ADVANCED ECOTOURISM CERTIFICATION!
This week Ecotourism Australia welcomes its newest certified operators: Live Ningaloo, who have just achieved Advanced Ecotourism Certification.
Live Ningaloo are specialists in bespoke boat tours of Ningaloo reef, Australia’s largest and most accessible fringing reef. Located in Exmouth, Western Australia, Live Ningaloo offer a variety of tours on their luxury vessel, the Wave Rider, including whale shark and humpback whale swimming, snorkelling tours and scientific expeditions. All tours have a maximum of ten guests, giving visitors a personalised tour experience to explore the rich aquatic life of Ningaloo Reef.
Live Ningaloo is the creation of Murray Pattison and Sonia Beckwith, who both share a love for the marine environment and love sharing it with visitors. They proudly declare themselves ‘eco warriors’ who are passionate about helping guests to discover the wonders of Ningaloo Reef Marine Park in a way that both teaches and delights.
Their mission is to create unique and memorable experiences that highlight the wonders of the Ningaloo Reef and inspire guests to make changes in their habits and educate others to protect the oceans and environment. Every Live Ningaloo guided tour is led by a well-trained crew, including a marine biologist, who provide education and interpretation to guests prior to activities and ensure they follow their policy of “Look, but don’t touch or take anything from the reef.”
Operating their tours in Ningaloo Marine Park, Live Ningaloo take their responsibility to protect and conserve the marine environment seriously. They have implemented various measures to minimise their impact on the environment and to have a policy of reduce, reuse and recycle whenever possible.
Live Ningaloo strive to purchase ecofriendly, locally sourced products and buy in bulk to reduce packaging and support the local community. Staff are encouraged to walk or ride to work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and in March 2017, a new policy of no bottled water served aboard was implemented to reduce plastic use and water waste. All water used is desalinated water produced aboard, having no impact on the local water supply.
Live Ningaloo are also members of the Cape Conservation Group and contributed to the Ningaloo Turtle Program in 2016/17. In 2018, they will be working with Aboriginal Biodiversity Conservation to gain more information and provide support to them through their fundraising events.
