Parks Australia is looking for Expressions of Interest for tourism investments and entrepreneurial ideas on Christmas Island. Christmas Island National Park is famous for its fascinating rainforest and marine life. Unique species, like the Red Crab, and abundant wildlife call the National Park their home. Among birdwatchers, Christmas Island is considered a hidden gem.

In recent years the island has moved into the spotlight through its inclusion in TV Shows, and National and International Wildlife Documentaries, including Australian Geographic, The Living Room an National Geographic. People’s interest in the island has peaked recently, when a statement by Sir David Attenborough was released; he listed the Island's annual red crab migration as one of the top 10 most memorable TV moments from his life’s work.

Presently there are new developments taking place at Christmas Island as Parks Australia has opened the Island’s National Park for business and is sending out an Expression of Interest message to the tourism industry. The National body is looking for entrepreneurial ideas that are fresh, exciting and engaging visitor experiences and/or commercial activities that complement existing operations and conserve park values.

The Island has a lot of unique features that provide great material for new business ideas. Along with the annual crab migration, when tens of millions of crabs travel to and from the sea, there are also tens of thousands of sea birds nesting on the island, which provides a breathtaking wilderness experience for visitors. The island’s forest, wetlands and coastline showcase animals and habitat found nowhere else. Internationally significant wetlands at Dales and Hosnie’s Springs, as well as our dramatic landscapes, add to the appeal of this natural wonderland.

If you believe you have tourism product idea which enhances the visitor’s understanding and enjoyment of the park’s natural wonders and provide an unforgettable experience, get in contact with Parks Australia. On 1 February 2016, Parks Australia will also send out a call for potential partners to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to work with them and establish a new environmentally sensitive tourism and commercial activities within Christmas Island National Park.

This is a great chance for those always wanting to join the tourism industry or tourism operator looking to expand their business. Express your interest and become part of the Christmas Island National Park story.
