Rainforestation Nature Park is located in Far North Queensland, amidst the Kuranda rainforest. We are an all-weather attraction, home to the Army Duck Rainforest tours on land and water, the Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience and the iconic Australian animals in the Koala & Wildlife Park.
Ecotourism in Action
Rainforestation Nature Park has established a very strong and credible reputation as a leading tourist attraction since 1976 with a strong focus on ecotourism and sustainability which aims to include and benefit local communities as well as protecting the environment. Fresh produce grown on site is used on the daily lunch buffet. Seasonal tropical exotic fruit is also available for purchase, picked fresh from the orchard. Eucalyptus leaves for our koala colony are grown on a plantation at Lotus Glen Prison and farmed by the prisoners as part of a rehabilitation project. The leftover koala leaf is then recycled and mulched for the gardens at Rainforestation. Our biocycle waste treatment plant uses controlled natural processes to purify waste water for recycling. We are 100% self-sufficient in water sustainability. Tree planting is an ongoing program embarked upon by schools, corporate and community groups from around the globe. A name plaque for each group is mounted on an honour board in appreciation of this contribution. We have established a vermiculture worm farm to reduce the amount of garbage going into landfills while returning vital organic material to the soil. An oil separator is used to separate oil from water each time the workshop floor is washed. This procedure ensures that only water passes through our drains. The oil is stored in separate drums for collection and recycling. We have also installed 231 solar panels totalling 75kw. It is a nil export system, which results in the reduction of the overall cost of electricity being charged to the business. Since the installation of solar panels, Rainforestation has avoided a total of 52 tons of CO2.

Army Duck Rainforest Tours
Rainforestation has twelve WWII vintage amphibious vehicles which hold up to 30 passengers and features 6 wheel drive, propeller and rudder. During the 45-minute rainforest tour, your knowledgeable Duck Captain will identify and explain fascinating plants and wildlife as you pass by before splashing into the lake for a cruise to spot more wildlife and learn of the rainforest ecosystem.

Bush Tucka Walk
The Bush Tucka Walk takes place in and around the natural rainforest of Rainforestation Nature Park and incorporates Aboriginal culture and education. Your journey begins with a traditional welcome by your Pamagirri Aboriginal guide, who will explain some of the history, cultures and customs of the local tribe and people. You will then make your way into the rainforest with your guide, stopping to learn about the different plants and fruits traditionally used as medicines and food. The walk also allows you to view and learn about traditional Aboriginal huts (gunyas), as well as the implements and weapons used for hunting and fighting such as hook boomerangs and stone axes.

Koala & Wildlife Park
The Koala and Wildlife Park allows visitors to experience another facet of Australia.
Wander at your leisure or join a guided group with our experienced Wildlife Keepers. A series of elevated boardwalks provide close-up uninterrupted views of various Australian animals and reptiles. Hand feed the free roaming kangaroos and wallabies in the landscaped gardens, observe the endangered cassowary, see wombats and lace monitors, and view local snakes and other reptiles. The star attraction of our Wildlife Park is “Jack the Ripper”, a 5 metre saltwater crocodile weighing in at 650kgs with a reputation of killing 12 of his girlfriends in times gone by. Jack is kept in his own enclosure with an elevated platform perfect for your safe and close-up viewing. On the other side of Jack is our fresh water enclosure where a bask of juvenile crocodiles, turtles and lizards sun themselves and casually swim around. -
Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience
Local indigenous Pamagirri guides welcome you to join them on a journey to discover the Dreamtime and learn about the fascinating customs and ancient traditions that are kept alive in the rainforest of Kuranda; in Tropical North Queensland. The Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience takes approximately 1 hour which includes both the Pamagirri Aboriginal Dance Show held in the Rainforest amphitheatre and the Dreamtime Walk, conducted either before or after the show.
