World Tourism Day - 27 September 2014
World Tourism Day (WTD) is an initiative by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, celebrated every year on 27 September. It is a global observance to highlight tourism’s social, cultural, political and economic value.
This year, the theme is Tourism and Community Development, focusing on the ability of tourism to empower people and provide them with skills to achieve change in their local communities.
While the official celebrations will be taking place in Guadalajara, Mexico, there are plenty of ways to get involved where you are, from holding an event or competition, to sharing your photos and projects. For any bloggers out there, don't miss the opportunity to participate in the The WTD Blogger Competition! And be sure to hashtag any WTD posts on social media #WTD2014
With plenty of our Ecotourism Australia certified operators undertaking fantastic initiatives to benefit community development, we encourage you to get involved in the celebrations for World Tourism Day and share your great work to support our industry.
You can find out more about WTD on Facebook, Twitter, or their website.
