Tasmanian tourism is

Tasmanian tourism is increasingly becoming more popular and developing into a tourism destination that can compete with the biggest tourism destinations in Australia.

Tasmanian tourism operators won the greatest share of awards (taking away 10 Gold, 3 Silver and 3 Bronze awards) in comparison to other states and territory at the 2014 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, in Adelaide. Awards were distributed between historical sites, cruise companies and cultural festivals. It is significant to notice that the majority of award winners are Eco Certified.

One exemplar for Tasmania’s best practise is Pennicott Wilderness Journey. Robert Pennicott and his family are in the business for more than thirteen years and have won multiple awards, including the Excellence in Sustainable Tourism Award. Besides being hundred percent Carbon offset, Robert’s tours are Advanced Eco Certified.

The Tasmanian Tourism Industry Council Chief Executive Luke Martin proudly told the ABC “Our lead tourism operators have every right to think they’re leading the country in tourism and we are well on our way to being a world-class visitor destination”. He feels achievements from the Award’s night are unique and can possibly set investments in the industry in motions. At this stage Tasmania accounts a tourism marketing budget of about $16 million a year, which is comparable low to Western Australia ($41 million) and the Northern Territory ($44.7 million).
