We would like to welcome our newest certified operator, Talkabout Tours, having just achieved Ecotourism certification for 3 of their cultural immersion tours; the Bush Tucker and Aussie foods Tour, 40 million years ago to NOW, and Pinnacles Day trip/Camping in the Bush (Moore River, Mundaring).

The concept of Talkabout Tours comes to us from Liz Franklyn and Tim Massey, both experienced English teachers, who started their first tours in 1999 when they realised that Perth and Western Australia remained mostly undiscovered especially to non-English speakers. This was even the case for foreign students who had come to the local area in order to improve their English skills. Talkabout Tours addresses this gap, and also offers tours to anyone that wants to visit the local attractions.

Their Bush Tucker and Aussie foods Tour takes place on the banks of the Swan or Canning River, amongst naturally growing bush tucker trees, incorporating an educational, taste-testing experience, detailing historical uses for bushfoods by Indigenous Australians, as well as some Aussie favourites from today.

40 million years ago to NOW Tour is a three-day all-encompassing journey around Perth and Surrounds historical landmarks. Development of this tour is ongoing and engages Curtin University and local businesses to present a one-of-a-kind experience of Australian reflection.

The Pinnacles Day trip/Camping in the Bush Tour is an adventure filled multi-day experience incorporating some of Perth and Surrounds “must do” activities. Guests enjoy caving at Yanchep, sandboarding, the Pinnacles, and various other activities like bushwalking, canoeing, camping and star gazing, all in stunning and unique natural environments.

Talkabout Tours also offers a wide range of shorter tours in and around their primary destinations, and can tailor their tours to suit the needs of their guests. These tours, which range from one day escapes to five day adventures offer an exciting opportunity to enhance any travel experience with local knowledge. Talkabout Tours also manage Homestay arrangements for International students coming to study in Perth, as such they have a strong and engaged relationship with University of Western Australia and Curtin University.

The guests, who are primarily students from overseas, are educated about the various environments present in Australia and ensure all guests are aware of the minimal impact guidelines embedded in tour operations. This includes advice on climate change and its effects on the natural environment, how to manage waste and how to reduce your environmental impact while out walking or snorkelling. All Talkabout Tours are developed in consultation with the University of Western Australia and Curtin University, local businesses and community groups, and Indigenous content is developed in consultation with local group, Urban Indigenous.

Ecotourism Australia is very happy to have Talkabout Tours as part of our network!
