They say that the strength of the team is each individual member and the strength of each member is the team. This sentiment is certainly represented at Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort on the Great Barrier Reef, where instead of nominating one Everyday Ecotourism Hero, Environmental Manager Chelsea Godson could not help but nominate four!

What have you heard about the Great Barrier Reef? If we hazard a guess, there’s a good chance it was bad news. Our media, as much as we love it and learn from it, seems to enjoy focusing on the problems when it comes to the reef – coral bleaching, climate change impacts, the dying reef, overfishing – the list goes on. But what we don’t get to hear much about is what people are doing to protect the reef, and to conserve it for future generations. In this article we want to share just some of these things – plus give you some easy ways to get involved and be part of the solution.

Coral reefs are some of our world’s most precious ecosystems. From the Great Barrier Reef in Australia to the Red Sea Coral Reef in Egypt, Israel and Saudi Arabia and everything in between, coral reefs have long provided both employment and enjoyment for many people around the globe.

Congratulations to 1770 Reef for Achieving Advanced Ecotourism Certification for Tours- Lady Musgrave, Pancake Creek, and Fitzroy Lagoon!
Based in the town of 1770, 1770 Reef provide nature based day trips to the Southern Great Barrier Reef, including Lady Musgrave Island, Pancake Creek and Fitzroy Lagoon. 1770 Reef’s high-speed catamaran, Emelie, will take guests to world class snorkel and dive locations. Visiting Lady Musgrave Island, a 14 hectares coral cay, guests are invited to view the local marina life, including turtles and manta rays, in the pristine water of the coral fringed Lady Musgrave Lagoon. This is the perfect location to explore Australia’s Southern Great Barrier Reef first hand.
Findings and Feedback from the Australian Tourism Exchange 2017
Ecotourism Australia (EA) joined over 2,500 tourism industry professionals at the 2017 Australian Tourism Exchange in Sydney between the 15th to 19th of May and were pleased to see ECO Certified operators made up 20% of all Sellers represented at the event. Yet again, ATE proved to be a valuable experience, offering the opportunity to connect with our members, build beneficial relationships and gain insight into current trends and market interest in ecotourism.

GBRMPA release Outlook Report 2014
The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) has just released their Outlook Report 2014, and with it some positive statistics for tourism, and for ECO certified tourism operators within the Marine Park.
