LIGHT2LIGHT COASTAL WALKS ACHIEVES ECOTOURISM CERTIFICATION
Congratulations to Light2Light Coastal Walks for achieving Ecotourism certification!
We are happy to announce our newest certified operator, Light2Light Coastal Walks, who have just achieved Ecotourism certification for their tours - 3 Day Lighthouse Stay Fully Guided Walk, 3 Day Fully Guided Walk, and 3 Day Self-Guided Walk.
Light2Light Coastal Walks operate guided and self-guided walks through one of the world's unspoilt coastal environments, spectacular Ben Boyd National Park, on the Sapphire Coast of NSW. Their tours encompass the iconic Light to Light Walk from Boyds Tower to Green Cape Lighthouse – known as one of Australia’s best undiscovered walks. Each day consists of around 3-6 hours of casual walking and includes delicious local cuisine and accommodation.
The young tourism business that started operating in August 2017 is the creation of Paul and Liz Pincini and Tim Shepherd. With more than 25 years of experience in the tourism industry and Tim’s background as a regional manager of NSW National Parks, they know what it takes to make a coastal wilderness experience a wonderful and memorable trip.
Light2Light Coastal Walks’ key values – providing quality information and interpretation on natural and cultural values of the walk – reflect their passion for the environment and understanding and respect for the local indigenous culture. Interpretation themes covered during the guided walk include history of the area, local threatened species, climate change and Aboriginal use of the area, amongst others.
Ben Boyd National Park protects a key area of coastal plant and animal communities including old growth forest, extensive heathland, estuarine and freshwater wetlands, dune ecosystems, a large number of threatened native animal species and bio-geographically significant plant species. Therefore, Light2Light Coastal Walks follows the ‘leave no trace’ principles and brief guests prior to every tour to ensure that they do not have a negative impact on the area.
Light2Light Coastal Walks contribute to local conservation efforts by recording threatened species and other interesting observations into the ‘Atlas of Life in the Coastal Wilderness’ to identify as many living creatures in the area as possible and to improve data on threatened species for park managers.
They also strive to use local and fresh produce because of their quality and to reduce their carbon footprint by minimising transport distances.
