Congratulations to Tangalooma Island Resort for achieving Ecotourism certification for their whale watching cruises

Tangalooma Island Resort, located on Moreton Island (Queensland), operates whale watching tours each year from June to October - the peak migration period for viewing humpback whales off the Queensland coastline. Cruises depart frequently from Brisbane and Moreton Island to Moreton Bay to catch a glimpse of the +20,000 whales as they put on their annual display.

Expert commentary from a trained and knowledgeable Eco Ranger is provided on every tour, along with a light lunch and a stopover at Tangalooma Island Resort where they can explore or drop into the Tangalooma Marine Education and Conservation Centre. Those on board learn not only about the gentle giants but also the local dolphins, Moreton Island's fascinating Indigenous history and surprising background as a whaling station.

Tangalooma Island Resort have a reputation for excellence and their whale watching cruises are no exception. They adhere to a strict environmental policy, have implemented a comprehensive waste management plan, and their whale watching vessels have recently been upgraded with state-of-the-art noise efficient motors. In addition to this, the organisation has strong involvement and support for conservation and their local community through their Brisbane based not-for-profit, Tangalooma Ecomarines, which brings together schools, local businesses, and community organisations and individuals to protect the Moreton Bay marine environment and its wildlife.

We're happy to have them on board as new member of Ecotourism Australia. To find our more about Tangalooma Island Resort's Whale Watching Cruises, please click here.
