Congratulations to Par Avion for achieving ROC Certification!
Par Avion is no stranger to ecotourism, having earned its Nature Certification more than four years ago. It operates breathtaking scenic tours throughout eastern, southern and western Tasmania where visitors are offered an exclusive birds-eye-view of the radical Tasmanian landscape.
Par Avion has now achieved Respecting Our Culture (ROC) certification, reflecting the operator’s commitment to protecting cultural authenticity and acknowledgment of Indigenous peoples’ spiritual connection to the land and water.
A prime example of this achievement lies in the Nuenonne Walk, in southwest Tasmania. Resulting from a partnership between the Tasmanian Aboriginal Land and Sea Council (TASLC) and the Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS), this Aboriginal heritage walk shares the stories of the Needwonnee people of southwest Tasmania with innovative interpretive installations along a new 1.2 kilometre boardwalk that weaves its way through the forest and buttongrass plains beside Melaleuca Lagoon.
Par Avion’s operational management echoes the values of ROC certification, as it participates and supports local initiatives Wildcare Australia, Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service, and the Aboriginal Land and Sea Council of Tasmania. The operator also supports local welfare by employing 75% of their staff from the local area and choosing to source and promote Tasmania’s local gastronomy.
Ecotourism Australia is proud to support Par Avion and its commendable attitude to ecotourism.
