Congratulations to Timandra by the Sea for achieving Nature Certification for their open Garden, and Ecotourism Certification for their guided walks and sustainable landscaping workshops!

Timandra by the Sea is an award-winning regional garden in Victoria open to the public on a daily basis. In 2014, Timandra by the Sea was awarded Landscaping Victoria's 'Sustainable Landscape' Award. This one acre garden, located 35km west of Port Fairy, boasts an abundance of native plant and wildlife, including an splendid array of bird species, koalas and frogs. Enjoyed by children and adults alike, Timandra by the Sea is a pleasant trip all year round, even in the winter months.

The garden itself has been designed by regional landscape designers Alison and David Aplin, who pride themselves on sustainable garden design. Construction within the garden has been kept to the barest minimum, and no artificial lighting is used to maintain the natural feel of the surrounding environment and to ensure minimal disturbance is made to wildlife. As Alison says, "A true sustainable garden uses an extensive range of native plants suited to the soil for increased biodiversity to the site; limits earthworks; minimises all construction and has no hard landscaping. It should also provide insulation to the home as climate change concerns become more evident."

Two day sustainable landscapes workshops are also offered at the garden, run by seasoned landscape designer, public speaker, horticulturist and arborist, Alison; covering sustainable gardening practices and plant varieties and climate suitability. Also offered at Timandra by the Sea are guided tours through the garden showcasing its features, inhabitants, informing visitors about sustainable gardening practices and planting, and how the garden in maintained.
