Green Travel Leader, 1770 LARC! Tours have just achieved a double milestone: 24 years in business and induction into the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence Hall of Fame - an honour awarded to businesses who have won Certificates of Excellence for five consecutive years.

The business, opened by the Mergard family in May 1994, has always focused on sharing the beauty and isolation of Queensland’s Bustard Bay with visitors. Their ex-military Lighter Amphibious Resupply Cargo (L.A.R.C) vessel is versatile, reliable, has a low environmental impact and cannot be missed due to its distinctive pink colour.

“On a daily basis our team is showcasing the stunning destination of 1770 in the iconic pink amphibian vessels, said owner/operator Neil Mergard.

“There is constant positive feedback about the tours. When this translates into online reviews, it’s a great testament to the surroundings, the products and the high level of service we offer.”

1770 LARC! Tours achieved Ecotourism Certification in 2002 for their paradise tour, afternoon cruise and LARC + lunch tour, and in 2017 certified another product, the Goolimbil – Black Cockatoo Walkabout, which gives visitors the opportunity to learn about the Gooreng Gooreng culture that lived in the region sustainably for tens of thousands of years.

Operating tours in the same region for over two decades means that the wildlife, seabirds and marine life are all familiar with the iconic green vessels by now:

“It’s often likened to a ‘moving grandstand’ as we provide access along stretches of coastline where animals are prevalent, and people are scarce, said Neil Mergard.

“[This makes for] an awesome day in the outdoors.”
