The Central Coast Marine Discovery Centre has something for everyone. Encouraging an interest in science and learning through displays and interactive activities. Overlooking the protected Terrigal Lagoon with amazing birdlife and native plants. Next door is a safe, modern children's playground and cafe'.

Ecotourism in Action

The Central Coast Marine Discovery Centre strives to have minimal impact on the environment. Initiatives include Solar Panels, rainwater harvesting, efficient LED lighting, building insulation and natural ventilation. Reuse cardboard and clean waste for activities and displays. Our policy is to eliminate single-use plastics and reduce energy consumption with the aim of becoming carbon neutral.

  • Central Coast Marine Discovery Centre

    The CCMDC serves all sections of the population and encourages an interest in science and life long learning through: displays and interactive activities for the general public and schools. Learn about our amazing temperate marine environment and the coastal landforms and native plants. Our Virtual Reality Dive enables anyone to explore the Ex HMAS Adelaide Artificial Reef which is a part of the Wonders of the Wreck program. Suitable for groups of all ages and abilities; including scouts, guides, progress associations,seniors groups, playgroups, vacation care, Disabled, Rotary, Dementia and others. 

  • Central Coast Marine Discovery Centre - Schools Program

    Programs are offered for primary and high schools and are paid for by the schools on a cost recovery basis. These programs allow children to touch local rock pool marine life and teaches them how to take care of the environment. A typical program runs from 9.30 am to 2pm and is delivered by qualified CCMDC staff. The focus of the primary programs is to engage students with the marine environment and foster an understanding of their importance and the need for protection. Our secondary programs are based on syllabus outcomes in Science and Geography and students will gain invaluable field skills as they study the local ecosystems. Other tailored programs are available for international students.

  • Wings, Whales and Wildflower Tours

    A new experience in observing, learning and enjoying the coast by land or sea. The Central Coast has a dozen spectacular National Parks, numerous reserves and waterways and a great system of tracks, trails and lookouts. Suitable for families and groups over 12 years old. The seasons for nature on the Central Coast are dynamic. Starting in April with large flocks of parrots feeding on Swamp Mahogany trees, to May to July when Humpback Whales travel along the coast or August when wildflowers are in abundance. In summer, migratory birds visit from all around the world. Delicious, healthy food, magnificent scenery with interesting and informative talks and handouts. Take home memories and photos of the Central Coast better than you thought possible. Basic Package for 5 hours involves: Activity (or Walk), Hot Lunch, visit to the Marine Centre and Expert Talk with handout.
